CALVARY JUNIOR SCHOOLS
YEARS 3-4 (STAGE 2)
This is a dynamic time for our children, as they are developing a strong sense of independence and ownership of their learning. Identifying with confidence, how they learn best, students are becoming aware of the cycle of inquiry and of the value of reflecting and evaluating to personally improve.
Progressive assessment and relevant and timely feedback is part of the regular routine as children set themselves goals and thrive in developing skills of self-management and learning to learn. As they develop essential questioning and inquiry skills, children in this stage are more able to make connections to the world going on around them. Their sense of agency is alerted as they realise that their new knowledge doesn’t just enlighten them, but that sharing their knowledge can impact and influence those around them also.
Independence in using technology, the internet and various online programs, encourages wisdom and a deep sense of respect. Cyber awareness and safety is deliberately embedded throughout the curriculum and units of inquiry. Technology is valued as a tool to enhance learning at appropriate times.
Leadership is fostered through developing a heart of service and empathy. Staff partner with students to help them develop their relationship with Christ and an understanding of their place in the biblical narrative. Through daily Devotions and an integrated Christian worldview, students learn how to apply Truth to their everyday lives, developing a lifestyle of worship and service.
