CALVARY JUNIOR SCHOOLS
YEARS 1-2 (STAGE 1)
Throughout these years, children develop a much stronger understanding of who they are, as well as begin to make connections to the community around them. We provide dynamic, interactive and inquiry-based learning experiences that continue the consolidation of essential literacy and numeracy skills. This may include teacher-directed instruction, learning through play, group or whole class activities. Each child learns differently, and at this stage, they are recognising in themselves, their learning style and make choices to position themselves well for learning.
Integrating a biblical perspective into every opportunity as it authentically presents itself, models at an early age the reality of the depth and breadth of God’s influence over creation. Children are so receptive to learning about His love for them and the intricacies of the universe He has created.
We believe that learning takes place anywhere, anytime. Learning extends beyond the classroom setting through both teacher-planned and student-initiated activities. Excursions are linked closely to units of inquiry so as to bring the curriculum to life. The questions of our children bring about experiences such as visits to the farm on the Carbrook campus, involvement in Walk to School or Clean Up Australia Day. Inquiry lends itself to exploring the passions and interests of our children, whilst also ensuring their curriculum needs are well provided for.
